Chair and Deputy Chair Appointments
Melbourne, Australia; 1 October 2026: On behalf of the Board of Directors, Starpharma (ASX: SPL,
US OTC: SPHRY) today announces that, as previously foreshadowed, Mr Rob Thomas AO will retire as
Chair of the Board at the conclusion of the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November, following
12 years of distinguished service as Chair. Current non-executive directors Dr Russell Basser and Mr
David McIntyre will assume the roles of Chair and Deputy Chair, respectively, from the close of the
AGM. The Board has also requested that Mr Thomas continue as a non-executive director, subject to
shareholder approval, to support continuity and an orderly Chair transition.
These changes reflect Starpharma’s increasing focus on targeted oncology therapies and broader
international engagement. The Board believesthis leadershipstructure is well suited to theCompany’s
next phase, bringing together Dr Basser’s deep clinical oncology and global drug development
expertise with Mr McIntyre’s strong US commercial, business development and capital markets
experience.
Strategic rationale
This transition is intended to ensure the Board’s leadership remains closely aligned with Starpharma’s
next phase of development. As the Company sharpens its focus on targeted oncology therapies and
advances its international activities, the Board considers it important that its leadership structure
reflects the capabilities most relevant to clinical development, commercialisation, partnering and
capital markets engagement. The appointments of Dr Basser as Chair and Mr McIntyre as Deputy Chair
will strengthen Board oversight in these areas, while Mr Thomas’ continued service as a non-executive
director, subject to shareholder approval, will support continuity and an orderly transition.
Mr Rob Thomas AO, Starpharma’s Chairman, said:
“It has been a privilege to serve as Chair during a formative period for Starpharma in advancing its
dendrimer technology. This company has a very exciting future under our CEO Cheryl Maley. It is
important to align board responsibilities in a way that supports Cheryl and complements our future
strategy as the company sharpens its focus on targeted oncology therapies. As current non-executive
directors, Russell and David already know the business and are well placed to step into these roles at
an important point in Starpharma’s journey. Russell brings deep clinical oncology and international
drug development expertise, built over more than 30 years across medicine and biopharmaceutical
development, while David brings substantial global life sciences, commercial and US capital markets
experience.”
