Transfection Reagents

Transfection is the process of transferring genetic material into cells, and can be achieved using dendrimers. When in the presence of genetic material such as DNA or RNA, charge complementation leads to an association of the nucleic acid with the dendrimer. On reaching its destination the dendrimer-nucleic acid complex is then taken into the cell via endocytosis. Since the surface of dendrimers can be tailored, there are many ways to target this construct and further mitigate toxicity.

Dendrimers for transfection applications are available to scientists from EMD Chemicals.
